To reserve one of our usability kits, or to reserve a room with usability kit and mirror at my institute (HCC), email me (kandrews@iicm.edu) by Wed 23 Apr 2025 18:00, stating your group number, and your preferred slot. See Section 1 for usability kit slots, and Section 2 for slots for a room with mirror and usability kit. Note that we only have limited availabilty!
The deadline for kit and room reservations from HCC has now passed!
As an alternative venue, a room is bookable at the International House of the university (see Section 3 below).
All loans and returns from/to Prof. Andrews' office, Room DH03052, Data House, Sandgasse 36, 3rd floor. Four usability kits (Kits 1 to 4) are available to take away on loan. One usability kit (Kit 5) stays at the institute in the test room. Each kit contains (among other stuff):
Sanyo Xacti HD1010 (SD-Card) Digital Camcorder.
Stick exactly to the time slots below:
I am not able to make extra appointments with individual groups at other times.
Do not be late to pick up or return your kit! Groups who are late make me or the tutors wait and cause knock-on effects for other groups. I reserve the right to deduct points from groups who are substantially late for appointments.
Do not attempt to return your kit early. Neither to me, nor to the institute secretariat, nor to a colleague in an office nearby. Just stick to the schedule below!!
One member of your group (it does not have to be the same person) will need to present their TU Graz student ID and sign for the equipment upon loan and upon return.
Make sure you delete your recordings from the camera's SD Card before returning the kit!
Note that it is more convenient for you, your test users, and us, if you can organise your own video equipment.
The loan period is from 10:30 on the day of loan to 10:30 on the day of return.
Remember that you should never run your real test on the same day as your pilot test!
Mon 05 May 2025 at 10:30 (Return on Fri 09 May 2025 at 10:30) Kit 1 Kit 2 Kit 3 Kit 4 Fri 09 May 2025 at 10:30 Returns only
I have one extra tripod, which can be borrowed separately, at the same time slots as the kits (see above).
We expect almost all groups will be able to organise their own room with a computer connected to the Internet to conduct the thinking aloud tests.
If you really cannot organise anywhere to run your tests, a room at the institute with a mirror and a set of video equipment (Kit 5) will be available at the times listed below. Note that you need one of the pilot test slots in addition to one of the real test slots.
A computer will not be available. I am assuming you are bringing a laptop with you.
Stick exactly to the time slots below:
I am not able to make extra appointments with individual groups at other times.
Do not be late. If your appointment is at 09:00, then show up at 09:00. I reserve the right to deduct points from groups who are substantially late for appointments.
Make sure you delete your recordings from the camera's SD Card when you are finished!
Note that it is much more convenient for you, your test users, and us, if you can organise your own test room.
Mon 05 May 2025 12:00 15:00 G1-01
The pilot tests will be in Meeting Room B1, Data House, Sandgasse 36, 3rd floor.
Have your pilot test user show up 1 or 1.5 hours after the start of your slot, so you have plenty of time to set up and get to know the equipment, make test recordings, etc., beforehand.
Fri 09 May 2025 09:00 14:00 G1-01
The real tests will be in Meeting Room B1, Data House, Sandgasse 36, 3rd floor.
As an alternative venue to carry out user tests, the International House of Graz University of Technology (Lessingstraße 32, 8010 Graz) has a room (the International Study & Work Zone) which can be booked by students of the university.
Information is available on their web page:

and booking is via this link:

Note: this is a separate resource, independent of this course.
